Prof. Alexandre Bayen

Technical Advisory Board USA
[overview]

Prof. Alexandre Bayen is the Liao-Cho Professor of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, with faculty appointments in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences and Civil & Environmental Engineering. His research applies control theory, optimization, and machine learning to large-scale autonomous and cyber-physical systems — including connected vehicles, traffic networks, and smart infrastructure.

He serves as Associate Provost for Moffett Field Program Development at UC Berkeley and previously directed the Institute of Transportation Studies. Before joining Berkeley, he worked as a research scientist at NASA Ames Research Center on air traffic control optimization, and he has maintained close research collaborations with NASA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and several national laboratories.

Prof. Bayen holds a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. He is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the NSF CAREER Award, the Ballhaus Award from Stanford, and the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award. He has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications spanning autonomous systems, mobility, and large-scale control.
