Prof. Jeff Schneider is a Research Professor in the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, where his work spans machine learning for autonomous systems, optimization, Bayesian methods, and decision-making under uncertainty. His research has been applied to autonomous vehicles, scientific discovery, and large-scale industrial systems.
He was a founding leader and Engineering Lead at Uber's Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), where he helped take self-driving vehicles from research prototypes to on-road deployment at scale. He has also led research and engineering efforts as the chief scientist of multiple machine learning startups and has consulted broadly for industry and government on applied AI.
Prof. Schneider received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Rochester. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications across machine learning, robotics, and active learning, and his work has been recognized with paper awards at leading conferences. He frequently advises programs at DARPA, NSF, and the Department of Energy on applied machine learning and autonomy.
