Prof. Jonathan How is the Richard Cockburn Maclaurin Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Ford Professor of Engineering. He directs the Aerospace Controls Laboratory, where his research focuses on planning, learning, and control for autonomous aerospace and robotic systems — including multi-agent reinforcement learning, distributed estimation, and resilient autonomy for UAVs and ground vehicles.
Prof. How is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). His honors include the IFAC Automatica Award, the Air Force Commander's Public Service Award, multiple AIAA Best Paper Awards, and the IEEE Control Systems Society Distinguished Member Award.
He received his Ph.D. from MIT, where he later joined the faculty after research and teaching positions at Stanford and beyond. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and has graduated dozens of students who now lead autonomy efforts in industry, government, and academia.
